Peter Hope 1782–1868
Peter Hope, a successful businessman, was the son of William Hope and Mary Jones. He was born April 11, 1782 in Liverpool, Lancashire and died Jan 8, 1782 in England. Peter Hope was my 4th great-grandfather.
On 14 Apr 1807, Peter Hope — a wine merchant and shop owner — married Mary Ann Potts (1785–1841) in Saint Martin, Birmingham, England. They raised eight children, five girls and three boys, in the city of Liverpool. They were the parents of Maria Hope — my 3rd great-grandmother, who married Rev. Samuel Manning in England.
In retirement, Peter employed three servants to maintain his home after his wife Mary passed away. Clara, the oldest daughter, also lived with Peter since she apparently never married. The first born son, George, became a successful doctor, while Thomas Radford Hope was a stock broker and business owner.

Peter Hope late of Seaforth near Liverpool in the County of Lancaster Gentleman deceased who died 8 January 1868 at Seaforth aforesaid was proved at Liverpool by the oaths of George Henry Hope of Seaforth aforesaid Doctor of Medicine and Thomas Radford Hope of 144 Chatham-street Liverpool aforesaid Gentleman the Sons the Executors. effect under £3,000. (a lot of money at the time, other people left only £100s)
